Bernstein Diet is named after an endocrinologist and type 1 diabetic patient, Dr. Richard K Bernstein. In 1997 his book “Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetic Solution: A Complete Guide To Achieve Normal Blood Sugars” was published and it came into limelight. It was written for Diabetic Patients and people with insulin resistance syndrome. Whereas Diabetes as disease stops producing insulin and people become diabetic. insulin is a hormone that controls blood sugar levels. At the age of twelve, Bernstein was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. He started cutting down his insulin injections proportionally and also cut down his high carbohydrate diet, he said that it was a success within a year his condition started to improve and he carries on this pattern. It was a huge success, as his blood sugar level started to remain normal and constant. At first, he started to convince the medical community that his experience is worthwhile, but no one listened to him, he quit his engineering studies and took admission in medical school. He opened up his own clinic in 1983 and started to formulate his own diet which later proved to be the basis of his 1997 book.
